Everyone knows Westfields were built in Dudley. But now that one of the most familiar names in the kit car world is back – it's now based in Bicester.
And on the Local Heroes display at the Scramble on Sunday 23 April, Westfield will be in the wild for the first time since it was saved.
The Lotus Seven-esque cars have been a staple since the early 1980s, the heyday of the movement, with a variety of powerplants creating an array of buzzy and screaming machines.
Despite the popularity it failed to survive the production and parts delays created by the pandemic but thankfully Westfield found a new custodian in Nigel Trilk.
In partnership with Project Shop, run by Simeon Cattle and Steve Clark, it left its traditional home in the West Midlands of Kingswinford and set up base just around the corner from Bicester Heritage – making perhaps the shortest of all the hops to join the celebration.
Westfield’s powerful Ford Zetec and nimble Mazda MX-5 ‘Final Edition’ range of kits will be wound down in 2023 before a very special plan is revealed to the world later this year.
The Westfield XI, a svelte sports car that is an homage to the Frank Costin-designed Lotus 11 sports racer of the 1950s, is expected to return before the new-for-2024 cars are announced, too. Just five will be built this year.
You’ll see ‘Yellow Peril’, the blisteringly quick demonstrator, on the lawn by Building 123.
