Motorsport UK has become the latest Bicester Heritage resident to sign the Armed Forces Covenant, which underlines the company’s commitment to supporting the employment of veterans.
Motorsport UK says it will also ‘provide opportunities for members of the Armed Forces, including local cadet units, to join volunteer schemes, such as Marshalling or Officiating at events, to give them unique motorsport experiences.'
As many as 15 of the Bicester Heritage specialists have signed their own Armed Forces Covenants, along with Bicester Motion, helping to preserve the historic links the site has with the military.
“As a country we owe so much to our military veterans,” said Hugh Chambers, Motorsport UK CEO. “And, as a sport, we are custodians of many unique ex-military sites for various motorsport events including Silverstone Circuit and Bicester Heritage, our home, which were both once military bases. We’re also very thankful to existing Ministry of Defence sites providing venues for a wide range of motorsport activities.
“Many of our members have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces and we have several registered Clubs actively participating in the sport. We commit to fully integrating these groups into the wider Motorsport UK community to provide a safe and welcoming environment.
“We are proud to sign the Armed Forces Covenant and to commit to preserving the history, providing opportunities and demonstrating the importance of the Armed Forces.”
Signing the Covenant is the first step in Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, which offers Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Bicester Motion, Blue Diamond Riley Services, Motor Spirit, Classic Performance Engineering, Heritage Skills Academy, Harry Fraser Vehicle Upholstery Ltd, Kingsbury Racing Shop Ltd, Historit, Sky Wave Gin and The Vintage Car Radiator Company Ltd have all been awarded Bronze in recent years.
