Airfield

Aviation at Bicester Motion can trace its roots to the pioneering days of flight. In 1911, early aviator Group Capt. Reynolds was the first to touch the grass here in his Bristol Boxkite whilst on a cross-country adventure. Just five years later the Royal Flying Corps had formed and constructed the first hangars on the western edge of the airfield. In the care of the Royal Air Force, the prototype Halifax Bomber took off from this green oasis, not to mention the Blenheim bombers, Bristol Fighters and other aircraft which took to the air during the dark days of wartime aero activity. Today our expansive grass airstrips are at the heart of Bicester Motion’s Quarters and home to many historic and contemporary aircraft, operated by The Bicester Aerodrome Company. Hangarage and access is available for all types of general aviation, encouraging dynamic activity and a viable future for long history of aviation in Bicester.
