Blue Diamond Riley Services has packed eight cars off for the HERO-ERA Flying Scotsman 2024, ready for three days and 600 miles of intrepid adventures.

The event kicks off today, Friday 12 April, departing Chester for the finish at Gleneagles on Sunday. Six of the eight have been prepped by the vintage British specialist, half of which are naturally wearing the blue diamond badge of Riley.

Peter and Kit Moore will pilot their 1936 Riley Special, while John Lomas of Blue Diamond is back aboard 1936 Riley Sprite ‘BAH’ alongside Pete Johnson. The third Riley, the 1937 Sprite known as ‘DUG’, will be driven by Iens Boswijk and Gé Steensma. DUG will be on the central display, the StarterMotor Concours, at the Scramble on Sunday 21 April.

Jim and Dancia Callahan have borrowed the AC 16/80 March Special from the HERO-ERA ‘Arrive and Drive’ fleet, fettled by Blue Diamond Riley Services, while Amnon Rafalowicz and Aernout Somsen are aboard a 1931 Alvis 12/60. The 1934 Lagonda Rapier Zagato so familiar to any Scramble attendee is entered by Federico Göttsche Bebert and Laurence Pawson.

Bob Meijer, non-executive director of Bicester Motion, is also entered in his Bristol 400 – OUI 808 with Blue Diamond below – and Bicester Motion chairman Michael Power tackles the rally in his Rolls-Royce 20-25. HERO-ERO managing director Patrick Burke and chairman Tomas de Vargas Machuca are in a Fraser Nash-BMW 328 and Bentley 3-4½ Litre respectively.

The rally will head to Lake Windermere on day one, before heading for Loch Lomond on Saturday and day two. The final leg winds to Gleneagles on the east coast, where the winner will be crowned.
