Kingsbury Racing handed its ex-DTM and Japanese Touring Car Championship BMW M3 a brilliant debut at the Silverstone Festival, claiming second in class in the packed Adrian Flux Trophy for MRL Historic Touring Cars.

Lewis Fox scored fifth overall at the flag on what was a relatively smooth first outing in front of a big crowd at the home of the British Grand Prix.

The BMW will have been one of the most original cars on the grid, a genuine Schnitzer car driven in period by Le Mans winner Stanley Dickens among others, and marked a first step into historic racing for the vintage racing specialists.

The car first turned a wheel in anger during the Wednesday open test session, and in Saturday’s qualifying Lewis put the car ninth on the grid and third in class – with class pole going to BMW tin-tops legend Steve Soper.

Lewis, adapting his single-seater skills and acclimatising to racing rear-drive tin-tops for the first time, battled with class victors Luis Liberal and Francisco Freitas through to the pit stops, and settled for class runner-up in the second half of the long race.
