Poem taken from the May 1945 edition of Whizz-Bang, the publication of RAF Bicester, reprinted in A History of Royal Air Force Station Bicester by DSW Blee.

Awake! The wide horizon is aflame.

Dawn robed in godly light

Rising, hurls back in her majestic might

The panoply of Night.

Whilst her main armies hold in strength the East, Proud bastion of the Day,

Swift cohorts sweep around Earth's rim, and they Outflank the. Night and sway.

The celestial battle. Meanwhile, spearheads

Of pearl and primrose vie

In leaping swiftness of advance and fly

Flaming across the sky.

Broken-could-troops in seried rank, roll back

Beaten-to end Night's reign

And with Avenging Sword, in light-aflame,

Dawn like an angel came

And Peace.
