Fast Fords to help kick off track action

Seven historic rallying Escorts are on the rally bill

The Vintage Car Radiator Company has pulled out all the stops for Flywheel and no fewer than seven Ford Escort rally cars will be among the rally cars kicking off the event each day.

Rob Smith of the VCRC is one of the leading figures in historic rallying, preparing Escorts and the odd Mini for driver, and they’re descending en masse on 17-18 June.

Book now to see some Blue Ovals sideways and cocking a wheel – sales end at 11pm on Friday for Saturday and 11pm on Saturday for Sunday.

Regular visitors may remember Rob’s spectacular runs at the Super Scramble five years ago, and he’ll be back behind the wheel of his RS1800.

Will Onions will pilot a historic rallying Group 4-spec RS Mk2, a front-runner in the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship, while Phil and Chris Squires will run a 2-litre BDA-engined and a crossflow-engined Mk2 respectively.

Phil Harris, who recalled to us his treacherous experience on the Roger Clark Rally in 2021, will drive his Mk2 and Jonathan Milicevic will pedal an RS1600.

Also in the rally group will a raft of Rileys from Blue Diamond and the ex-Tommi Makinen Subaru Impreza of Steve Rockingham.

What a way to fire the track into action – book now.
