Hagerty UK will celebrate 50 years of GTI at its Clubhouse at the sold-out Scramble on Sunday 26 April at Bicester Motion, gathering a wide selection of Volkswagens that have worn the badge.
In the early summer of 1976, the car teased at Frankfurt’s motor show was unveiled to the world and the initial run of 5000 souped-up Golfs turned into a global icon. More than 2.5m have been made since, across eight generations of Golf and other models.
The Polo and Up hatches both got the GTI treatment, while 50 years ago so too did the Scirocco.
Hagerty will also be hosting talks about the GTI market, led by Price Guide editor and valuation expert John Mayhead. Live stage times will be announced closer to the time.
Tickets to the Scramble sold out in 11 hours when they were released in January. Tickets to the October event will released to Pegasus members on 20 April, before general sale opens on Monday 27 April.
