Local Heroes: Classic Project Shop

Experts in keeping Bicester Heritage moving

Classic Project Shop, based just around the corner from Bicester Heritage, is almost an extension of our base of old-car specialists.

When Pendine, for example, needs a car checking over or tuning up, a member of the small, largely ex-Tom Walkinshaw Racing will usually be scrambled to come and collect it, sort it and drive it back.

When one of StarterMotor’s fleet goes on the blink, Classic Project Shop despatches a low loader and gets it back into the hands of an Ambassador as quickly as it can.

Classic Project Shop is usually the first place the Bicester Heritage team turns when something goes amiss with their own classics and it is a preferred partner of Hangar 136, too.

Simeon Cattle, Steve Clark and the team have proved to be heroes to many at Bicester Heritage, and on Sunday 23 April a wonderful green and original Lamborghini Espada it cares for will be among the Local Heroes on display.

Classic Project Shop is unlike most classic car workshops because it doesn’t restrict itself to one specific marque. Instead it rights the wrongs of many, and knows the best place to send something that is outside of its remit.

To that end, a visit to its base can throw up anything from an old Land Rover to Mercedes 300SL, or perhaps Puff the Magic Wagon, the Austin Maxi that tackled the London to Mexico City World Cup Rally in 1970.

It is also working hard to preserve not only the cars for the future but the skills, and its team comprising many apprentices and graduate apprentices from Heritage Skills.

The striking Espada will be alongside its neighbours on Local Heroes at the Scramble on Sunday 23 April.
