Not since the Aero 8 of 2000 had Morgan created a clean-sheet new car design. The Super 3 puts an end to that run and it is one giant leap away from outgoing Three-Wheeler.
With the Aero 8 there was no avoiding that it was still very much a Morgan – the silhouette was true to the age-old form, for a start. The task was perhaps bigger to refresh the Three-Wheeler, a design that returned to the Morgan range just over a decade ago.
Morgan says it is the biggest visual departure since 1962, when the ultra-limited and Lotus-esque glassfibre Plus 4 Plus was unveiled, and for a ‘proper’ production model it’s in many ways the biggest shift since the flat-rad +4 gained a waterfall radiator.
Beneath, or rather inside, the Super 3 is aluminium rather than steel, like the rest of the new Morgan range, but unlike the rest this is a monocoque. A Morgan first.
