In 2014, Jaguar underlined its support of top cycling outfit Team Sky in the most petrolheaded way possible: it tasked the Special Vehicle Operations division with making an F-TYPE to follow Stage 20 of the Tour de France.
The F-TYPE R had just been launched, with a supercharged 5-litre V8 as standard, and where better to showcase it than with a road race that transcends the sport? and with Team Sky, of course, which was on the cusp of immortality and could boast Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas among its ranks.
Just one concept was made by SVO, the engineers behind some of Jaguar’s fastest and most outlandish models, and it will be joining Vintage Velos on Sunday. Our thanks extend to our friends at the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, who have moved heaven and earth to make it possible.
Finished in the Team Sky livery, the unique F-TYPE Coupé was fully kitted out: bespoke bike rack, radios and screens in the boot and more, all with its own power to the boot.
“This F-TYPE concept is a world class vehicle that will help get the best out of the team on the TT stages,” reckoned Sir Dave Brailsford, team principal at the time. While MArk Cameron of JLR said ”The visual impact of the F-TYPE Coupé during Stage 20 will also of course bring added attention to Team Sky and our unique partnership.”
Don’t miss the Team Sky F-TYPE at Vintage Velos on Sunday 30 April. Book now.
Team Sky became Team INEOS in 2019, and INEOS Grenadiers in 2021. An example of that rugged off-roader will also be on display.
