Pendine has returned to its Blast House showroom at Bicester Motion with a second-in-class trophy from the world’s most prestigious and hotly contested concours, Pebble Beach.

With two British cars in the running, Pendine took runner up in the Postwar Sports Racing category with Jaguar C-type XKC 044 fresh from almost a year’s restoration with CKL Developments. The car was sourced in New Zealand by Pendine for its current custodian.

Sold new to a customer in Sweden in 1953, it raced not only in Scandinavia but also at Brands Hatch in 1955 – with success, to third behind the Lister ‘BHL 2’ of Archie Scott Brown and works Lotus driver Mike Anthony.

Coincidentally BHL 1, the Maserati-powered sister car to which Scott Brown was in that day, is for sale with Pendine.

Today XKC 044 wears the same white and blue Finnish colours of its then-owner Curt Lincoln and is thought to be the most accurately restored C-type in existence. It will next be seen on the celebrated Colorado Grand, a 1000-mile charity tour featuring some of the world’s finest cars.

Also entered into the concours contest was a 1927 Bentley 4½ Litre Vanden Plas Sports Four-Seater, preserved as it left Cricklewood. Remarkably the interior and the paint are entirely original, and it is believed to be among the most original prewar Bentleys in the world.

“James and I were delighted and honoured to be representing these special British cars at the most prestigious Concours d’Elegance competition worldwide,” Tiggy Atkinson said.
