There’s a lot of talk in the automotive press about Peugeot reinventing the wheel. Like many traditional car manufacturers, Peugeot has started to think outside the box with what happens next with the car. Its own conceptual thinking has landed on the Polygon, and Peugeot moved into Hangar 113 to demonstrate it to the great and good of motoring writing.
The big difference, away from the gullwing doors and sharp styling, is the steering wheel. Which is a misnomer, because it isn’t much of a wheel but a ‘Hypersquare’. It’s fully electronic, bringing steer-by-wire into the equation. That allows for exceptionally quick steering, presumably with fully programmable feel and weight.
Peugeot laid out a mini low-speed autosolo course inside the historic hangar and pitted the e208 against the Polygon concept, to show just how manoeuvrable the future might be. It is a key component to Peugeot’s i-Cockpit.
Meanwhile the seats give new meaning to slung back. It’s bold and bright and the enthusiast car of the future.
