Plans have been submitted to give The Station Offices of the former RAF Bicester a new lease of life to swear in their centenary, for state-of-the-art HQ workspace designed specifically for automotive and aviation brands.
Buildings 146 and 147, the Operations Block at the rear and the Station Offices to the front, were built during the first phase of the Royal Air Force’s expansion in 1926.
The two-storey Grade II Listed building is opposite the Guard House by Gate 1, the main entrance, and is suitably commanding. It welcomed two sitting monarchs and thousands of RAF personnel in its working life, and, like much of the former RAF Bicester, was the best-preserved building of its type when Bicester Motion took over the site in 2013.
The proposed restoration will total 9,536 sq ft (886 sq m) and include an additional second storey to the rear, with Building 146, offering a smart and welcoming gateway to the Technical Site.
As with the restoration of the wider Bicester Motion Technical Site, industrial materials and features will be used to complement the building’s original characteristics.
Daniel Geoghegan, chief executive officer, Bicester Motion said: “As we continue to attract a thriving community of pioneering automotive and aviation brands, our proposed restoration will answer the demand from companies for exceptional and contemporary HQ office space in a prominent position within our estate. Buildings 146 and 147 have fallen into disrepair and require renovation to sensitively retain the existing exterior fabric, while providing enhanced commercial office space amenity.
“We look forward to seeing The Station Offices return to the same former glory as the rest of the revived Technical Site.”
