Polestar celebrated the 5’s star turn in Gran Turismo 7 by taking a car to the FAT Ice Race at Zell am See in Austria, following in the wheel tracks of the Arctic Circle Collection of Polestar 2s 12 months ago.
The Ice Race majors on flair and the forthcoming super GT showcased its spectacular driving dynamics by matching the sideways action of heroes of years gone by, including Audi Quattros and more.
The 5 was met at the event by Kazunori Yamauchi, founder of the most famous racing game, to help reveal the special Gran Turismo livery on the Ice Race Taxi. The car was revealed in the game in December.
“I have long been impressed by Polestar cars for their advanced, clean, and elegant designs,” Yamauchi said when the car was introduced to the game. “It is the first time we have worked together, and it has been a very positive experience. The development team at Polestar put a great deal of care into crafting the car’s driving experience, and so I am sure the players will enjoy the experience of driving it in Gran Turismo.”
Brands Hatch, a staple of Gran Turismo since the beginning, was enlisted for marrying the digital-world with the real-world driving parameters, and Super Formula racer and Gran Turismo champion Igor Fraga was charged with the driving duties.
“I know Brands Hatch from the game,” he said, before spending two days behind the wheel of a 5. "I was very impressed with how the car was modeled into the game, its characteristics and behaviour is really well represented. You have a lot to play with and that’s the fun part with this car.”
The development drivers of Polestar, many of whom raced for Polestar when it was the racing division of Volvo, displayed just that on the Austrian ice.
