Le Mans racer, historics stalwart and classic car aficionado Alain de Cadenet has died at the age of 76.

As a privateer he competed in the golden age of Le Mans, from the 1960s to 1980s, perhaps most famously sharing his Gordon Murray-created Duckhams Lola with Chris Craft to 12th place in its debut Le Mans in 1972. Beneath the Lola-created and Murray designed bodywork was a Brabham BT33 Craft had driven in Grands Prix for Alain's Ecurie Evergreen.

In 1976 the pair claimed third overall in another modified Lola, which led the way into his own marque of sports-prototypes.

In later life he was a regular at classic events, with an enviable collection of spectacular crs including an Alfa 8C.

Our thoughts go out to Alain’s family.
