If you’re trying to find a bad word about Theon Design’s Porsche 911 restomods, you’re going to be looking for a long time, and reading a lot of rave reviews. And you’ll still come up empty handed. Perfect will come up a lot, along with a lot of superlatives.
Theon calls its handiwork OEM+, rather than the term restomod. Each commission is a quest for perfection, of finish and for the owner.
In the tail of each Theon bespoke commission is a naturally aspirated flat-six, maintaining the heritage of the donor vehicle. That is without fail a 964-generation 911. And the options are 3.6, 3.8 or 4 litres, and you can also add a turbo or supercharger. In the ultimate configuration, including carbon body panels, the Theon R, you’re looking at more than 500bhp, a redline at 9000rpm and 100 mph in 6.5 seconds from standstill. Mind boggling.
Inside, the commissioner is truly let loose to ensure no two Theon products are ever the same. Expect the finest leather, proper dials down to the VDO clock.
Most importantly, the driving experience is amplified. ‘The best of its ilk’, according to Pistonheads, ‘divine’, says Top Gear. Much of it is down to that engine and the retention of the true driving pleasure. Rather than digitise and make it easy, Theon tries to make each drive an experience.
See the results up close among the Reboots & Restomods display at the sold-out Scramble on Sunday 5 October.
