Motor Spirit turned the taps on at the UK’s first public-facing sustainable fuel pump during Flywheel, offering a glimpse of the future of classic-car motoring.

Available from the Lubricant Store, the home of Motor Spirit, the SUSTAIN Classic range is a bio-fuel made from agricultural surplus. That means what would normally simply be waste is converted into fuel, recycling carbon that would be emitted regardless.

SUSTAIN Classic is up to 98 RON and has less than 1% ethanol content, which makes it perfect for classic cars. A premium additive helps fuel economy and protects the engine, and the fuel can be used alongside ordinary forecourt petrol.

Prices start from £3.80 per litre and it will be open during the Assembly on Sunday 25 June. Three types are available: Super 80, which is in the pump, is 80% renewable content and reduces greenhouse gases by more than 65% (£4.65p/l); Super 33, which is 33% sustainable and reduces emission by 25% (£3.80p/l); and Racing 50. The latter is 102 RON and costs £5.24 per litre, with increased additives.

“We're very excited to be the launch partner for Coryton's SUSTAIN Classic fuel,” said Guy Lachlan of Motor Spirit.

“It is vital for the future of classic cars and motorcycles that environmentally friendly liquid fuels are commercially available, and Motor Spirit's facility at Bicester Heritage is the perfect location to start an environmental revolution! SUSTAIN Classic represents the best available combination of usability, sustainability and quality: exactly in line with Motor Spirit's ethos.”

A number of cars ran on SUSTAIN Classic during Flywheel, including the Mazda RX-3 owned by the UK arm of the manufacturer as well as the whole of the StarterMotor fleet.
