If you’re going to unveil a line of carbon neutral model cars, a Tesla is a pretty good place to start. That is exactly what Matchbox announced last year – and it sold out in America when pre-orders were being taken in 2022.

The flagship electric car has become the flagbearer of Mattel’s sustainability drive, which aims to use 100% recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastic Materials for Matchbox by 2030. And this Tesla is a solid start by coming at 99%.

Roberto Stanichi, Mattel’s global head of vehicles, said it “is committing to our part in addressing the environmental issues we face today, and empower the next generation of Matchbox fans to help steer us towards a sustainable future.”

Zero-plastic packaging is coming, along with wider ranges of EVs and even an EV charge station.

Could this be a return to the cardboard boxes? Here’s hoping.
