The Road Rat is inspiring donations to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal by offering to match your donations up to £50 with credit to spend on its store.
‘We’ve spent the last week in visceral shock at the catastrophic impacts of the earthquakes on the Turkey-Syria border and watched in horror — and only occasionally, hope — as the death toll and the sheer volume of displaced survivors grew day by day,’ editor Mikey Harvey wrote on Facebook last night.
‘As individuals we’ve donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee, which in the UK coordinates fundraising across a group of charities on the ground. The Road Rat will also make a donation. But I’ve been wondering all weekend if there was something else The Road Rat could do to encourage donations.
‘We’ve come up with this: make a donation to the DEC and we’ll match the value of your donation with a ‘credit note’ for the Road Rat online store up to £50. We’re not set up for anything like this so it’s a little laborious but we hope it’s worth it. We can’t make it work with subscriptions alas, but can for everything else. We just ask you to pay for the postage.’
Simply donate at dec.org.uk before 5pm on Friday 17 February and forward your receipt to enquiries@theroadrat.com. The team at TRR will then email to you a gift card to use on its shop – bear in mind it doesn’t on subscriptions.
