The latest edition of the Road Rat is bringing you a side of Le Mans you’re unlikely to have ever seen before. Available now for £17.50, even Issue 014’s cover is a shot that looks vaguely familiar but is ever so slightly different.
It is from 1969, Ford’s final Le Mans win and the closest true finish in the race’s grand history. But it is not the shot of Jackie Oliver and Jacky Ickx mobbed and looking rather bewildered on the roof, a shot that has been seen countless times before.
This is a few scenes before, as the crowd descends on the GT40.
And so it continues in photobook style, but threaded together by The Road Rat’s editorial team and writers. Even the recent race is caught by one of the best in the paddock, Drew Gibson (you might have seen his blue Mk2 Escort before).
Elsewhere, racing writer Dickie Meaden recalls driving the Porsche 919 among a whole lot more in a bumper, conceptual edition.
Don’t miss it – it’s selling like none before. Buy now.
