Top Gear, the world’s largest motoring media brand, will present the fastest car ever around its fabled test track at the Scramble, signifying the start of a media partnership with Bicester Motion.

The brand’s debut display on the Main Drive on Sunday 27 April will be led by the McMurtry Spéirling, which beat the long-standing 20-year-old lap record set by the 2004 Renault R24 Formula 1 car.

As part of the Stig Laps video series on the Top Gear YouTube channel, the Spéirling lapped in 55.9 secs, three seconds quicker than the Grand Prix winner. Its appearance also links neatly with the event’s wider Record Collection display outside Building 123, where the speed and obscure records are being celebrated.

Joining the McMurtry and Top Gear’s editorial team on the Main Drive will be the Aston Martin Valhalla and Top Gear’s custom Royal Enfield motorbike, the striking Continental GT650, along with long-term ‘Garage’ cars including the MG Cyberster and Volkswagen ID. Buzz.

It will be the first display of a Scramble residency lasting for at least the next two years.

Daniel Geoghegan, Bicester Motion founder and CEO, said: "Adding Top Gear to our growing list of partners is hugely exciting for us at Bicester Motion. It is another marker in the continued evolution of the event, bringing together the best the site and the wider automotive community has to offer.”

Simon Bond, digital director, Top Gear, added: “The Top Gear editorial team have always loved the ethos of Scramble, and are delighted that fans can engage with the likes of the record-breaking McMurtry Spéirling and Aston Martin Valhalla up close. Bicester Motion’s plans for the future are compelling, and we’re looking forward to showcasing our own to the automotive community at future events.
