There are easier ways to move a chest of drawers. Whether there were quicker ways than with a Subaru Impreza WRX STi Sport Wagon in the 1990s is doubtful.
Or cooler, for that matter.
This, an example of which will grace Winter Wagons at the Scramble on Sunday 8 January, was to all intents and purposes a road-going Group A rally car with a boot. A big boot.
It left the factory with 276bhp from its turbocharged 2-litre – but was never officially bound for the UK and was home-market only. Naturally some found their way to the UK through various importers, but it’s a rare machine.
Rarer still, here and in Japan, is the Version 6. Deep front skirts and a pair of wings on the rear hatch really pushed the point home: this was no humdrum Subaru wagon.
Just 500 were made, all with gold wheels as standard like those beneath Colin McRae’s World Rally Championship winner. A pink Subaru badge adorned the grille, and oh-so ‘90s sticker on the hatch.
Wagons don’t cross country in quite the same way as an Subaru Impreza WRX STi Spor
