YASA has hit another major milestone in its ever-growing journey, delivering its 50,000th axial flux motor since 2010.
The Mercedes-Benz-owned Oxford University spin off has played a part in many of the most spectacular hypercars in recent years, including the Ferrari SF90, and was included as a central feature of the remarkable Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven homage to the C111.
The recent Concept AMG GT XX has been designed with three YASA motors, two at the front and one at the rear, and is said to be ‘an impressive insight into a forthcoming four-door series-production sports car from Mercedes-AMG.’
Axial flux motors off twice the power of a conventional radial flux motor and weigh half as much.
YASA, which will move into The Ranges at Bicester Motion, has a habit of breaking new ground, from inadvertently setting (and then breaking) a new unofficial record for the highest power density motor to its founder Tim Woolmer winning the Porsche Award.
Commenting on the figure, he said: “Going from 20 motors per year in 2010 to 20,000 motors per year in 2025 represents a 60% year on year growth every year for 15 years.
“Should be at 20m per annum by 2040,” he joked.
Away from automotive, YASA motors have powered boats including the record-breaking Jaguar Vector V20E and produces motors for UK, EU and NATO military vehicles.
